Wireless charging enables a phone or other compatible device to be charged by simply placing it onto the charger, rather than plugging in a cable. The principle has been used in electric toothbrushes for some time.
Wireless charging requires that the phone has wireless charging capability. All iPhones from 8 onwards can be charged wirelessly, as can the Android phones listed here.
Wireless charging works by having an alternating electrical current run through a copper coil in the charger. This induces an electrical current in a coil in the phone when the phone is placed within close proximity of the charger.
